Investigation launched into death of Celtics fan

Police said Woodman fled when they approached him and struggled as they tried to handcuff him. Police said they realized Woodman was in medical distress and began administering CPR and called for an ambulance.

Police allege David Woodman, 22, was drinking from an open container of what they believed was alcohol following the Celtic’s June 18 victory.

Woodman was taken to Beth Israel Medical Center and listed in critical condition. He died Sunday.

Celtics sign F Bill Walker

Walker had minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last month after injuring it in a pre-draft workout in June. He missed the Celtics’ rookie camp. Walker had surgery on the same knee as a high school freshman.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

In two seasons with the Wildcats, Walker averaged 15.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in 37 games.

Heat needs creativity to avoid luxury tax

As it is, should Alonzo Mourning return at anything above the veteran minimum, it would put the Heat hard against the dollar-for-dollar luxury tax even without utilizing its $1.9 million lower-level exception, its lone remaining salary-cap chip beyond trades.

Heat President Pat Riley might soon find out.

Brown hoping Bobcats sign free-agent Okafor soon

Bobcats center Ryan Hollins, participating in the Brown-coached Bobcats minicamp this week on the UNLV campus, said Okafor is working out on his own in New York. It’s expected Okafor will wait to see what offers come in from other teams before making a decision.

Notes: Hollins said he was still experiencing dizziness Thursday, a day after sustaining a concussion in a nasty collision with G Mustafa Shakur in the morning practice. Hollins, who also needed six stitches to close a wound
