Hornets to play 2 preseason games in Europe

The Hornets take on the Washington Wizards on October 14 at the O2 World in Berlin, Germany. The game will be one of the first major sporting events held at the arena, which opened last fall. The team will close out NBA Europe Live on October 17 at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain.

Former Trail Blazer Kevin Duckworth dies at 44

The Lincoln County sheriff’s office confirmed the death. He died Monday.

The 7-foot Duckworth was a starter for the Trail Blazers in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and a Western Conference All-Star in 1989 and 1991.

Duckworth retired from the NBA in 1997 after a season with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Boston fans gather to celebrate NBA title

Fans began gathering Thursday morning along the route of a “rolling rally” to celebrate the Boston Celtics’ first championship in 22 years. Trains headed into the city were jammed, as was the Garden’s souvenir shop in anticipation of the parade kickoff.

Sixteen World War II-era amphibious “duck boats” will carry the Celtics players, owners and staff. The team’s dancers, former Celtics greats and championship trophies from previous years will ride on two flatbed trucks.

Johnson signed with the Heat as a free agent in August 2007. He played one season with the Memphis Grizzlies before joining Miami.

Johnson, who averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 12.8 minutes for the Heat, missed five games during the final stretch of the season after he was struck in the temple in a collision with teammate Mark Blount.
