New kid on the mat Deitchler an Olympian

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Second, Deitchler is blessed with the kind of quickness and on-his-feet
improvisational skills that can’t be taught. Third, he is a thrower nonpareil
who, while kindergarten-aged in experience compared to most Olympic wrestlers,
already has the uncommon ability to throw an opponent for big points while in a
defensive position.

Last fall, before starting his senior year at Anoka (Minn.) High, Deitchler
had two Chinese characters tattooed under his right

Also winning was repeat Olympian Daniel Cormier at 211 1/2 pounds, and he
immediately promised in Askren-like fashion he will do better than the
fourth-place finish he managed at Athens in 2004.

Ben Askren, who brings a touch of pro wrestling braggadocio to the
don’t-rock-the-boat world of amateur wrestling, made a quick transition from
NCAA champion to Olympian when he won the U.S. 163-pound freestyle trials Sunday
night by beating national runner-up Tyrone Lewis in cons

The United States went on to break the record, claiming 110 total medals.

Clayton Stanley recorded a game-high 15 points and David Lee had five blocks for the undefeated Americans, who claimed their third goal medal in the sport by downing the top-ranked Brazilians.

"We had a couple things that were relatively close," Thorn said. "But it just didn’t get done. In some instances, we would have had to take back (a contract) that we didn’t want."

"I don’t know if it’s rebuilding, but the Nets organization as a whole is starting over," Douglas-Roberts said. "I feel this is a great rookie class, especially for the Nets. We’re the sleeper in the East."

The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because the deal can’t be announced until Wednesday at the earliest, confirmed Maggette will leave the Los Angeles Clippers for a lucrative long-term deal with the fast-paced Warriors, who outbid several suitors for the former Duke star.

Davis’ departure cleared room under the Warriors’ salary cap for Maggette, who reportedly drew attention from Boston, San Antonio, Detroit, Utah and Orlando. Golden State apparently offered more money a

Johnson has been learning various officiating procedures and terms, but commissioner David Stern wasn’t interested in Johnson’s referee skills when he picked him. He wanted someone to develop and enforce better guidelines and regulations for the officials, such as the rules involving casino gambling that even Stern said had been mishandled.

A new referees operations department is in place to help. Besides Johnson and Fryer, Joe Borgia became vice president of referee operations.

Lakers not battle-scarred enough for this NBA leve

Monday, July 27th, 2009

They weren’t focused enough for this.

After an unexpected season that extended well further than anyone on opening night would have guessed, the Lakers finished with a performance that also defied prediction. And nearly description.

They weren’t tough enough for this.

This wasn’t a parting shot; this was a parting dud.

If the Lakers are searching for solace today – and after losing Game 6, 131-92, they must be looking for everything, including a hole in whi
